Data retention
What happens when you delete something in Emerge.ai — what deletion removes, what archiving preserves, and what cannot be brought back.
What you'll do
This page describes what happens to content in a Cloud when it is deleted: what is removed with no way back, and what to use instead when you want something out of the way but not gone.
Deletion behavior is not adjustable. What follows is what the product does, not a set of options to configure.
Deleting a file is permanent
When you delete a file, it is removed outright. The product says so at the moment you do it — "This action cannot be undone." — and there is no in-product recovery path afterwards.
Treat deleting a file as permanent. If you need a file to survive a mistake, keep a copy outside the Cloud.
If you want a file out of the way without losing it, archive it instead — archived items have a Restore action, deleted ones do not.
Chats and messages
Chats and messages remain until someone deletes them. Deleting a chat is a deliberate action, and it removes the chat's messages with it — permanently.
Archiving is the reversible alternative here too: an archived chat moves out of the sidebar and can be restored from Archived Chats in your settings.
Treat this as a description of what you control, rather than as a retention guarantee: there is no published retention period for conversations, and no setting that establishes one.
What you cannot configure
There is no customer-facing retention setting. You cannot set a retention period for your own content, and an administrator cannot set one for the Cloud. The behavior on this page is the behavior you get.
Where the service runs
Emerge.ai's service is hosted in the United States. The product's own legal terms state this as well.
Definitions
- Delete — removes content permanently. Files and chats have no in-product recovery path once deleted.
